School Holiday Program

We begin our holiday programConga Line Time!Currently running at our main studio in Elsternwick, we have small groups booked each day this week and next. Children experience part singing, with parents and older siblings moving and dancing along. What makes our holiday program so special? It's our time to explore some beautiful instruments… exploring wonderful timbres, rhythms, melodies and harmonies. Experience a wonderful sense of being a part of a ‘music making community’! If you wish to join us, please call 0425854020 or email anna@musicworksmagic.comto book in.

The program runs daily @ 10am for babies and children aged 0-8yrs. We will run babies classes Tuesdays @ 11.45 and Wednesdays @ 12 noon.

Having finished our third term of music, we’d like to say how much we’ve enjoyed sharing music, dance, stories, puppets and instruments with your children.  It’s been a delight seeing every one of them gaining more confidence as they begin to find and explore their own, unique singing voices.  We look forward to seeing many of our children return for term 4 to continue the developmental process.

Why Our Music Works Magic!

Our voice is our first instrument

At Music Works Magic, we understand that the voice is our first instrument and that if you can sing in tune, you know how to listen and recall the sounds that you hear.  This is an important foundation for all learning.

And, if you want your child to learn to play an instrument, it’s vital they master their first instrument - the voice - and learn to sing in tune. Good musicians always sing. This process can begin with babies. When we interact with our children, eliciting responses from them, in sound, song, movement and dance we grow their musical intelligence. This process is particularly important from the birth of your child up until the age of 7.

What we do as teachers
As teachers, we provide a ‘live’ singing model so the children can hear us sing and importantly, hear their own voices. We also sing ‘high’, in a child-friendly voice so that children learn to distinguish between their speaking and singing voices.

Each term, we focus on a different theme, exploring traditional songs and nursery rhymes as well as folk songs and those written especially for children. We vocalise and encourage the children and parents to make the most wonderful sounds.

Every week in class, we include creative movement and practice rhythm and pitch. We also share a musical story book which our teachers sing and where the children have the chance to practice their listening skills.

Listening is an important part of our program. Our program also provides opportunities for audiation or inner hearing. This is where we hear the sounds in our heads - an essential skill for all musicians.

This term, the children have brought much enthusiasm, focus and joy to our classes together.
We look forwsard to sharing more music with them again next term.

 Take Note

Our Magic Voices Children's Chior is singing beautifully, having worked very hard to learn a lovely repertoire. We are continuing to do just that this term and having lots of fun playing musical games that help us pitch our voices accurately, breathe, stand with good posture, annunciate and sing with enthusiasm! We are looking forward to performing at our end of year concerts. Dates to be confirmed.

Our Toot Suite Beginner Recorder Ensemble is working remarkably well, learning our sixth note for the year… but we have learned about all sorts of rhythms and have a repertoire of some 2 dozen songs. The children are practicing well and making good progress preparing for our end of year concert.

Our Toot Encore Advanced Recorder Ensemble are playing a variety of pieces and exploring a number of 3 part pieces in a number of genres, from Australian Folk songs through classical, jazz and a fabulous traditional African piece. Watch for them at our concert.

Our Private Instrumental Program  is running well, with both children and adults currently taking lessons on the following instruments: Piano, Voice, Flute, Recorder, Clarinet, Cornet, Guitar, Violin and Cello. We look forward to hearing many of you perform and share your music in our 1 hour family concert in December.
