Toot Suite Recorder Group

The Toot Suite Recorder Ensemble began as a natural progression from the  pre-instrumental classes for 0-6yo offered at Music Works Magic. Many children wish to continue the interactive experience, enjoying the social aspect of musicking with like-minded friends through learning an instrument.

Children can begin in the group once they have turned 4 and are singing well in tune. We meet each week for a fun session of singing, playing games, dancing and learning a wonderful varied repertoire. We also begin to learn basic music literacy through a Kodaly based approach, whilst exploring the many essential skills for playing recorder and playing in an ensemble.

Children aged 4-10 years old can join our Toot Suite Recorder Ensemble. We often run a number of groups to provide for varying stages of development. Use the form below, or call our Director, Dr Anna Mlynek-Kalman on              0425 854 020 to register your interest for our next new ensemble.

Rehearsals

We rehearse for approximately 30 minutes each week. During rehearsals we discover wonderful new music together, learning how to read the music we sing, and how to hear it even before we sound it out loud on our instruments!

New Ensembles begin each term with minimum interest.

We ask for a full year commitment so that the ensemble has the time to develop as a group.

Performances

Toot Suite Recorder Ensembles perform at our End of Term Concerts wearing their Music Works Magic badge and a white shirt or t-shirt.

What you will need

There is quite a lot of variance in recorders and the sound they produce. At Music Works Magic we use non-expensive instruments and prefer all group members to have the same brand and model so as to create a more uniform sound.

Members of the Toot Suite Recorder Ensemble are required to have:

Yamaha Soprano Recorder (white) with carry bag

My First Recorder Book

Ensemble Pack including Display Book and Badge, supplied in an Ensemble Bag

Plain white t-shirt for all performances
